With the lesson drawing to a close, Ginny Weasley flipped her jotter closed and gave a small sigh of relief. The first Muggle Studies lesson of the school year was over. And as much as she hadn't really enjoyed writing and taking notes first full day back, it hadn't gone all that badly. She put her jotter back into her bag with a small smile.
As the lesson ended officially, and the teacher allowed the pupils to leave ( not that they could actually think of stopping the stampede) Ginny knocked over a bottle of ink that she had forgotten to pack away. With a little wince and scrunching up her face, she pulled out her wand as the others left the class ready for lunch. It didn't take long or much effort to clean up the mess, but it was still rather annoying that she could be so clumsy at time. Putting the ink bottle carefully away she then began to head out of the class.
A smile was back on her face now - the lesson was done, she was headed out, and hey, lunch time, always a good time. Yawning as she left the room, she didn't notice the group standing just a little outside of the class, whispering together. So it wasn't much of a surprise when she bumped into them. She shook herself and tried to smile again, "Sorry about that I guess I wasn't...-"
"Looking where you were going? Yeah, we got that." A voice drawled. Ginny took the time to look over the small group - a few Slytherins. She didn't know or recognise them, and it stood to reason that this was because they were older than her. Just her luck. She took in a deep breath, hoping they were hungry for lunch and not for trouble, otherwise her first day would take a huge downward spiral.
"Look I'm sorry, okay? I didn't mean it. Would you please just... Move out of the way?" She tried again. But there wasn't too much feeling behind it, as the Slytherins were looking quite menacing by this point. Automatically her started moving for her wand.
One of the older guys sneered, "Looky, it's the littlest Weasel. Hello Weasel-Girl. Heard you were one of the ones at the Ministery this year... Think you're brave? Think you're tough?" His words, though not that smart or clever were harsh, and Ginny wondered whether or not this was a real sore point. Perhaps a Death Eater for a father. Another one of them piped up next, "And look at this. Taking Muggle Studies are we? Well that does make sense... The Weasels have always been interested in that sort of rubbish. Look at their father." Again, not all that witty. But harsh. Looked as those the Slytherins were going to be much worse this year.
But she didn't think on it too much longer. Not when they seemed intent on hurting the 'Weasel-Girl.'

Ugh. History of Magic was never a fun class, particularly as he'd had to share it with Slytherins. It was bad enough that Professor Binns was dreadfully boring, but it seemed he had to contend with putting up with his twin brother's snide remarks as well. Darius pulled a face when Binns finally concluded the lesson, and was pretty much the first student out the door. He was not sticking around to get insulted by the slimy gits and pitied the other Hufflepuffs who got stuck behind with them. Darius would have normally waited for his fellows, but not while Axel was around.
"So, homework for tonight.... astronomical charts, practice aguamenti for Flitwick, and of course submit an essay on how to cure boils for Snape. Merlin's breath," the Hufflepuff grumbled to himself, shaking his head as he hurriedly shoved books away into his bag. The charts and the charm would be simple enough, but the essay would be the one to bring him down tonight. He'd never liked Snape, but regardless of that Potions class was actually something he enjoyed. Perhaps it was because D liked making things explode, or he just simply had fun making potions that had drastic effects on people.
With a sigh, Darius knew he was going to have to cancel that match of Exploding Snap he owed Ernie Macmillan, something he'd been looking forward to. However, if D didn't want to put up with Snape in detention it was necessary. Cruel but necessary. Sorry, Ernie, he thought to himself with a small apologetic shrug. Oh well, he'd get over it. Another night.
As he turned the corner, Darius spotted a flaming red head of hair and was about to say hi when he heard the insults being flung at her. By Slytherins, who looked to be in his year. The Hufflepuff raised an eyebrow, all signs of any intention to be friendly gone. Well, to the Slytherins anyway. He had a real problem with them now; especially since they were picking on a female. They just had no brains.
"Oi, you slimy gits wanna take your filthy insults elsewhere, right? Or you're going to find those tongues of yours rolled to the back of your throat and your legs jelly." Darius spoke out loudly, causing the Slytherins to turn around with sneers on their faces.
"Oh, look who it is! It's Axel's brother! Come to beg for attention, because his twin is so much better and has Mummy's love!" The group of snakes laughed, while the Hufflepuff didn't look impressed. His hand on the wand inside his robes.

The Slytherins were just getting more and more irritating. It was a job, a profession for them to be super annoying and to try and harm everyone they saw. And honestly, Ginny thought they were brilliant at that job - but that didn't mean she liked it. Or tolerated it. Her temper was flaring as her hand inched towards and finally clasped around her wand at the bottom of her bag. She was getting ready to take it out and maybe send a few well-placed hexes about, when someone rounded the corner, and spoke to the group.
Glancing, a little startled, over at the voice she grinned slightly as she faintly recognised who was there. Though she hadn't really spoken to the guy all that much, the seventh year Darius was known to her. She knew he'd hung out with her older brothers for a while - but really... Who hadn't? And anyone who was friends with her brother was alright in her book.
With the Slytherins' attention focused on something other than herself, she pulled out her wand carefully, and held her wand hand behind her back. It might not be needed but she wanted to be ready just in case the Slytherins really didn't want to leave. She frowned and glared at their backs, as one of them spoke back. They really were annoying... One little hex wouldn't hurt... The hand around her wand relaxed just slightly, to stop herself from sending a jinx at the nearest one. It'd have been funny. Kinda.
But she refrained from biting back just yet. "Come to help out?" Another Slytherin chipped in. "Gonna show us big heroics or somethin'?" The final one drawled out.
Ginny rolled her eyes. Idiots. The whole lot of them. She looked past them towards the Hufflepuff again, and raised an eyebrow at him, as an amused grin passed over her face. She hoped he had a plan. Otherwise things would get very interesting.

It was one thing for the Slytherins to be picking on someone; another for the victim to be female, and last but not least the female was Ginny. Now, Darius didn't know the bird very well, but he was pretty good friends with her older brothers Fred and George, and Ginny probably didn't know it but they'd asked him to keep an eye on their youngest sibling. Just for good measure, of course. The twins had often helped D out when it came to his own brother, so he was more than happy to do a favor for them. Plus he'd spoken to her once or twice, and deducted from their passing words that she was an alright bird.
Alright enough that she didn't deserve this load of crap from Slytherin seventh years. If Fred and George were still here, well, the guys would most likely have already been turned into toads by now. The thought amused Darius greatly, but it also gave him an idea. Transfiguration wasn't his best subject, admittedly, but he certainly wasn't the worst in the class. And if worst came to worst, he'd gladly receive several detentions in return for these Slytherins learning their lesson. Fred and George would welcome hearing of this, no matter the outcome. D had been taught well.
"Look, snakes, I don't want to have to hurt you but if you keep going on like a bunch of spoiled gits, well, you'll be hopping your way to Professor Snape." Darius shook his head, his tone mocking. The Slytherins continued to sneer, unwisely choosing to ignore his warning. Well, they were bloody stupid indeed. And what the Hufflepuff was about to do was silly as well, but it was totally worth it.
He saw the look Ginny shot him, and merely smirked in return. Snapping out his wand, Darius quickly uttered the incantation of the Jelly Legs jinx, directing it at the first Slytherin in his sight.

The Slytherins seemed fairly focused on the new arrival and someone else to bully and torment. They weren't known for having long-attention spans, not really, so this didn't exactly surprise Ginny. Perhaps as soon as their attention was diverted she should have left the scene - some people would have done that. But the thought hadn't even crossed her mind as she stood her ground. Leaving someone alone to deal with the Snakes? That was just an awful thing to do.
As she watched Darius smirk in return, the grin on her face brightened a notch. And as one Slytherin went down, Ginny quickly turned to the one nearest her and used her signature move - the Bat-Bogey Hex hadn't let her down before, and it didn't let her down now. Glancing across at Darius, she tried to remark casually, "Two down, one to go."
And quickly before the Slytherin could process what had happened and counter-curse them, she spun her wand, pointing it at him. But she attack. No spell crossed her lips. She glared, a lot. But that was all. Would she become like them, and take them all out? And enjoy it? Would she really act like that? Ugh...
"Maybe you should go pick on someone your own brain-size." She muttered, still glaring at the last of the trio left. He looked quite shocked, and who could blame him. But... If he made a move, then he'd go down too. But it might be best for at least one of the Slytherins to have sense and get the others away.

It wasn't every day one was able to jinx another student without being in the eyesight of a teacher, but Darius simply decided the Slytherins had picked the wrong area to be picking on someone. He watched the first one, whom he'd cast the Jelly Legs Jinx on, almost fall over due to his legs now feeling like jelly. With a grin on his face, D saw Ginny hurl the Bat Hogey Hex at the second Slytherin. Leaving only one left, whom Darius was still debating on letting him walk away free or not. He smirked again, this time at Ginny's remark, nodding. "One left, without his mates to back him up." He mused, not failing to notice how the lone Slytherin stiffened.
He truly didn't mean to take pleasure in their suffering, but Darius knew enough of Slytherins to remember they'd be doing the same had the positions been reversed. Some day they would be, but it wasn't today for sure. Today, Gryffindor and Hufflepuff had gotten the upper hand of the Snakes. Well, not without detentions, which was likely to come later when Snape heard of the deeds, but all worth it in the end. Even if it meant having to clean buckets full of toad bowels, or some other nasty chore instructed by Snape.
"I agree with the Gryffindor, mate. Best hightail it out of here with these two; they'll need fixing, anyway." Darius jerked his thumbs to the other two Slytherins, watching quite carefully when the unjinxed Slytherin helped his fellows up and headed the other way with them.
He turned to Ginny with a warm smile, all signs of hatred and seriousness gone along with the Slytherins. "Bloody gits, they never learn. How have you been, Ginny?"

The look of the bewildered Snake trio as they tried to get away with as much pride as they could made Ginny laugh a touch. Not wanting to provoke them into really fighting back, she turned her head away, placing a hand over her mouth to try and stifle it. But it was good to see the Slytherins finally backing down, and learning that not everyone could be pushed around.
Of course there was no way they would pass up an opportunity to give people detentions, so they would soon be squealing to Snape about it. That dampened her spirit, but not by very much and not for long. She could deal with whatever Snape sent their way. It wouldn't be... That bad. And it was worth it if she could just take a mental picture of the scene and their faces. The fact that the Slytherins had stopped fighting, was good, and a part of her enjoyed hexing the Slytherin - but only a bit. After all, it had been about time people had started standing up to them.
When the Snakes had finally left she laughed brightly, and flashed Darius a bright grin. "You know, in a way that was slightly fun." She wouldn't go doing it again any time soon, but it now that the event was over she felt a bit more relaxed. Things were good.
She smiled slightly, and shrugged, "Apart from the royal gits that are Slytherins choosing to annoy me... Just peachy thanks. It's been good. And how about you Darius?" She asked in return as she put her wand away into her bag once more. Hopefully it would only be coming out for practicing spells for the rest of the day, and not duelling.

The Slytherins were attempting to walk away with as much pride as possible; Darius silently thought to himself that they should consider themselves lucky there hadn't been anyone around other than him and Ginny to witness the humiliation of the so called Snakes. He smirked at their retreating backs, knowing the punishment would be well worth this. Hopefully it taught the trio a lesson; if not, well, D was more than willing to teach them again and again until they did. He despised Slytherins with a passion, not just because of Axel but because how they acted towards everyone else of lesser blood status and such.
He returned the bright grin Ginny flashed at him, nodding his head in agreement. Darius didn't often hex or jinx Slytherins, but it was quite funny when he did. Still, he prefered his pranks on the slimy gits. Much more entertaining. "They bit off more than they could chew. Daft idiots." The Hufflepuff chuckled, shaking his head for a brief moment. D cracked his neck, sliding away the larch wand which had just been used against the unfortunate victim.
"That's good to hear. How's Fred and George doin'? Last I heard, they were opening up a shop of their own." Darius made a mental note to check out the shop sometime; it would be good for a few laughs, and maybe pick up some things to use on the Slytherins as well. Knowing Fred and George would wholeheartedly approve of his plan for their products. "M'alright, other than the git of a twin brother being an arrogant arse like normal." He smiled.

Nodding slightly, she kept up her grin as she straightened the strap of her bag and moved away from the doorway to the muggle studies class room. So much for getting down to lunch early - but seeing the looks on the Slytherins faces were enough that she didn't care too much. "That is the problem with most of them, though... Always picking fights in the wrong places. But y'know what? I bet by the end of lunch they'll be out looking for a fight again." She rolled her eyes, then shrugged.
She smiled, relaxing a bit more since the little scuffing. Ginny chuckled softly, and replied, "You heard right. They have a joke shop down in Diagon Alley. And it's going really well." She nodded once more. It had surprised them all, she thought, that they had done so well. The business was really going down - despite, or perhaps because of the threat of war looming over them all. "You should definitely try and get down there to see it - even the shop is impressive. And if that's not enough, you can actually see Fred and George wearing suits and looking responsible. It's weird." Ginny laughed brightly again.
She listened to him, and smiled back as he finished. "Ah, well maybe everyone needs some amount of... 'git-ness' in their life. But m'glad things are good apart from that."
