You don't know if you're doing the right thing at all by dating him and that you could have fun with him but not really want to because you know something else is out there and it's a million times better ? oh i know, I had that feeling last year. Suddenly the music was no longer important, neither was the view or the night, for Harry, the world just dropped from under his feet, and nothing but her existed there. This was too precious to let it pass. He can't lose this, voldemort took everything away from him, but he can't let him have this.
Slowly, he was getting back to planet earth, back to the lake side with the same view and music, he had this idea, he would hesitate but this time , it was easier, clearer and much more comfortable, maybe he'll have the guts for it now, He got to his feet and reached his hand to her, come on, dance with me.
he kept smiling as he waited for her to take his hand so he could pull her up to her feet, for the first time, Harry Potter was actually talking to a girl he liked without having that little kid look on his face, he was confident this time and imagine ! He even asked her to dance ! A privilege Padma and Parvati would have killed for on the yull ball night. You and Neville were the best dancers on the yull ball, so says Hagrid, but i have to see for myself ,may I have the pleasure, miss Weasley ?
As stupid and dumb that sounded, there wasn't really much room for options , option A was to sit there and talk about her and Dean for the few minutes they still had before McGonagall finds out they're out of bed, option B was take her back to the common room, option C was to ask her to dance, and there you go ! That's the way out ! The thing about guys is that they keep looking for a way into a girl's heart, or trust, once they're in, and on the meeting they wanted, they start looking for a way out, out of the awkward and avoidable conversations, anything that might ruin anything. Only Harry wasn't trying to find a way in, he wanted to , but he didn't try, but there he was confused, not knowing what to say or do next, finding himself tied back to the same problem.

Ginny was silent, her face blank her heart thumping at his words. "Yes." she whispered softly. Yes, he had it right. He had it spot on, that was exactly the way she was feeling. Dating Dean would be fun, and it would be different. They had laughed together before, relaxed together, chatted together. But there was something out there, that if she managed to clasp hold of... It would be a million times better than she could ever have imagined. She knew that, and she longed for that. Taking in a deep breath, and willing her heart to slow down, to not over-react she nodded, "Yes, that's it exactly."
The whole evening had been so great so far. She couldn't quite believe it. After years of believing nothing could happen with her and Harry, tonight had shown her that perhaps she was wrong. But maybe she was jumping to conclusions. Somehow that didn't seem to be the case. She was elated, delighted, but when Harry stood up her heart stopped for a second. Ginny feared that her moment, her best memory was coming to an end when, he offered her his hand and asked her to dance.
She blinked softly, processing what was happening. And without really taking note of what she was doing, her hand reached up and clasped around his. And then she was being pulled up, and she helped as well, pushing herself to stand. The cold breeze of the night suddenly meant nothing as she stepped forward and placed a hand on his shoulder. "I'd love to dance, Mr Potter."
Smiling happily, brightly at him, her heart started beating once more. And everything fell into place. Everything was fine, and great, and brilliant and... oh she could go on! But she wouldn't. She looked into his eyes, her own sparkling slightly as she smiled genuinely. Ginny was going to make every last second last.
Laughing quietly, she replied, "Hagris said that, did he? Well, I better not let him or your expectations down."

Taking her hand in his, while the other held her waist, he gave her a slight smile, He kept saying that every time we mentioned him and his...well, friend dancing until dawn, but i already know that you can't let me down, you've got nothing to worry about.
Wow ! just simple plain WOw! Things could get better sometimes without even planning it, thank you professor Flitwick ! Since he found himself talking to her, he didn't think about all the misery and he wasn't going to start now, he slowed the pace and lowered his other hand to hold her waist as well, leaving her no choice but to move hers around his neck, sneaky trick ! Credits to Fred for it. He just felt so safe with her. he looked at her and she was looking back up, and he just froze, closing his eyes to avoid any temptation to kiss her. Not that he did't want to he just...God it was hard to explain any of it.
he felt he owes it to himself, a little explanation, what was he doing ? deep inside all he could hear was a voice repeating, What am I doing ? She's Ron's sister, he's my best friend ! I can't do this to him, but she's so...perfect, what to do ? There was nothing as bad as inter conflict, an ever lasting debate that killed the mind it by bit and drove men on to the edge of insanity. But that's just the catch ! Ginny's presence made all that go away, and pulled him back from edge, protected him, how is it that this girl, a year younger than him, made him feel safe ? The world was an odd machine that didn't make any sense, and tonight, Harry wanted it t stay that way, whether it made sense or not, he really couldn't care less.

Swaying ever so slightly to the music that was growing fainter to her ears, Ginny laughed softly, "Well, I'm glad. I'd hate to be the one that let you down, Mr Potter." She smiled, and could feel her heart rate increase a jump as one of his hands made its way to her waist.
Of all the scenarios Ginny had pictured as her first day, or evening really, back at Hogwarts, this had definitely not been one of them. But she had to say, she liked this one the best by far. And she wouldn't change it. She felt safe, and happy, and so many great feelings all by standing next to him - dancing! And it was strange, she had never really felt like that before.
Biting her bottom lip as her smile grew, she noticed Harrys other hand now moving away from hers and down to her waist. Leaving her free to do as she wanted to do from the beginning of their 'dance' and move her arms to wrap loosely around his neck. Stepping slightly closer as she continued to dance gently, not moving much, Ginny could feel everything around her drifting away.
It was just the pair of them. As it should be, to her mind at least.
And she wanted nothing more than to kiss, or to stay as they were for such a long time - but perhaps neither of those would work out. To kiss him would be more than she could have hoped for, what she had wanted for so long, but... Would it change anything? And now, as they danced together, Ginny was sure, she was so sure that at least a tiny part of Harry felt happy in her arms. She had wanted that for many years as well.

we should...go back, it's late as much as he hated to say that, it was true, if they were caught outside of bed at this hour, they would both be getting detention with snape. On the other hand, he wouldn't mind spending some more time with her, NO ! What is he thinking ? He can't possibly do this, he wants it but can't do it, not to Ron, not to Dean and Especially not to her.
Turns out Hagrid was telling the truth, not bad, not bad at all Miss Weasley. Yeah yeah, shut it Harry ! Now he's talking, after that he ruined the hole night, and though he already told her they should be going back, he didn't let go of her, and when he realized it, he slowly let her go and stood there waiting for her to join him so they could go back, if someone saw them on their way back, it might not be pleasant for either one of them.
He had never blew a chance like that with Cho, when he USED to like her, he seized the opportunity to ask her out, though it was a complete failure, it was better than nothing, while right now, he had Ginny in his arms, her face was inches away and he couldn't tell her.
He regretted ever letting go of her and even had a small vision of him holding her again and promessing to never let go, it looks good in a vision with all the dramatic music that you imagine along with her perfect reaction, but when it came to reality, he and Ginny were great together, but it was somehow impossible.

As they danced, it was just them, the pair of them. Ginny and Harry. Harry and Ginny. But then his words brought her back to reality, and she mutely nodded. His words were true. But that didn't mean she liked them very much. The truth was hard to ignore though, and simply stood there for a moment. "Yeah... Uh, yeah, you're right. It wouldn't be good to get caught."
There was a moment, a pause. A time of silence, when Ginny wanted to blurt out something - how she felt perhaps? That she didn't want to go in? Or did she want to do something, perhaps. Hold him and not let go? But she did none of those things, and instead just smiled weakly when he broke the silence instead. "Well, you weren't so bad yourself, Mr Potter. Quite the dancer."
She shivered slightly as he stepped away from her and in that moment apart she looked away and out over the lake. It wasn't as though she had nothing to say. She just couldn't get out the words. There would never be another chance like this, would there? But why couldn't she do something, or say something?
A she stepped over to Harry, ready to begin the walk back, she thought on that. There a few things of course... Like her brother, for one thing. It would be strange, and it might put a strain on Harry's relationship with Ron she thought, and she couldn't bring herself to let that happen. So with a slight, weak smile at Harry she started to walk.
