The lake was calm and still, there wasn't a breeze to cause mini waves, and the squid was deep, deep down staying in it's underwater paradise. Ginny Weasley sat by the edge of the lake, looking out across it rather absently. Though there wasn't a breeze, it was still rather cold, and after a while she couldn't help but shiver slightly. Her school unifrom - today consisting of the usual shoes, socks, skirt, shirt, and tie, wasn't helping. She had left her jumper and robes inside. Rather silly of her really...
Sighing softly, she stretched her legs out and leant back, and onto her elbows and forearms. Her thoughts were a jumbled mess. There wasn't an order or a reason for most of them - they were just there. Hanging about. Unwilling to leave her alone. She closed her eyes and focused on her breathing. In... Out... And then tried to think and remember clearly.
After the events of the last school year, Ginny had grown up and seen a lot. The battle at the Ministery, the whole wizarding world realising that Voldemort was in fact back. It was hard to deal with. Opening her eyes slowly, she tried to push those thoughts away and focus on the now. The fact that school was back, and she was with all her friends. For the moment, Hogwarts was safe and she knew that. The day was drawing to a close and the feast for dinner would be starting soon. If she had any sense left she would be heading inside. Her stomach would appreciate the food, she knew.
But the calm that was the lake was so tempting, and so welcoming, that she didn't feel compelled to leave just yet. The grounds of Hogwarts was a good place to relax and to think. Except if you were stupid enough to head near the Whompig Willow. Or near Hagrids hut because there was always a strange creature there. Most students had learnt to stay away from there.
As she began to relax, her thoughts wandered to happier memories and times. Inside the castle her best friends would be laughing. It was good to laugh. Ginny laughed hearing laughter. Hermione would be there. Ginny considered Hermione her best friend, along with Luna. Though Luna was a little odd, she was a good person. Ron would be there too. And Harry, she wouldn't forget that. All inside, getting ready for some food!
Smiling softly, she took in another deep breath, before tensing as she heard footsteps headed her way. She had been wrong to think all students were inside, and getting ready for dinner.

No matter how you would try to describe it, there was no way to put enough words that could catch even the smallest glimpse of Hogwarts. There was no way to explain the magic that it had, not the spells, the potions or the brooms, Hogwarts, the castle had an irresistible charm that captured the heart and soul of each and every person that laid foot on it's grounds. Like I said, it's hard to explain.
Inside the great hall, students were still waiting to be sorted, others were watching, putting bets on who would end up in slytherin and Ron was waiting to eat. Though it was a great atmosphere, Harry didn't want to be a part of it this year. Can you imagine cheering on others, while Sirius was still imprinted in his memory, in his every dream. For almost all his life, Harry didn't think about death as much as he did now, sure his mother and father were taken away, but he had never felt the pain of seeing death in front of him, like he did last year. At first, he began to blame himself, not for causing his godfather's death, that was established a long time ago, but for feeling that brief moment of anger, revenge, the first time he used an unforgivable spell.
And above it all, he had all his friends in danger, Ron, Hermione, Neville, Ginny, Luna... And to think that the only ones that got hurt, were the ones close to him. All of this running through his head at the same time and there was no spell to get it away, he fed on that guilt and it fed on him, the only time it seemed to let go was when he wasn't alone.
As said, Harry wanted a little time away from the great hall, the starving Ron and the loud students. No place seemed as good as the grounds. There were Aurors all around, and it wasn't easy to dodge them, but soon enough, Harry found himself walking towards the lake, it was probably the only clear path. From far away, a figure could be seen on the ground. At first, Harry thought it was an auror as well, or probably a professor, but as he got closer, he noticed it was only a girl, it was Ginny Weasley. Some shiver ran down his spine, but why ? He never had that feeling before, well probably once but that's defiantly a different situation, it had to be, there was no explanation. he came to a full stop next to her, and put on his best smile, the best he could manage, "Hi"
Well don't blame him ! It was a fine achievement to manage that out. He was always a man of few words, most of the times, but come on ! Harry always found it hard to say anything when he's...well, we'll get to that later.

She relaxed slightly, as she heard the very familiar voice. The smile on her face grew a little as she tilted her head up to look at him. The Chosen One. The Boy Who Lived. Ginny preferred Harry the best. That was who he was really."Hey." She smiled at him for a second, before glancing away quickly and across the lake. Silent for a moment, dealing with new thoughts that she couldn't quite understand, she then moved over a bit, making space for him. It was silly to move - the lake was huge, and Ginny tiny in comparison, there was a lot of ground next to her, but she moved just the same. Giving him a choice, in a way.
Patting the ground softly, she smiled slightly up at him again, "Care to sit with me for a while?" Ginny wasn't sure if he'd take her up on the offer. She wouldn't blame him if he didn't, if he needed some time alone. He... Well... She couldn't begin to imagine how he would be feeling right now, but all of her, every tiny little part of her, wanted to be there for him as he went through this.
Ginny had never really lost anyone in her family. No one had left never to return, so what Harry was feeling was entirely knew territory to her - mainly. She could understand exactly how he was feeling about all the aurors and extra protection. Ginny felt... She felt trapped. And cut off from everything. And having the aurors around, just there, in plain sight... it was scary and made things so much more real. So much more solid.
She brought her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them in a hug as she shivered slightly once more. She glanced over at Harry, and for some reason she just.. She felt different when he was around. She always did. And she was glad that he was with her.
As she tilted her head to look up at him, her eyes trailed over to the flickering lights at the castle. The Great Hall. The feast must have started. The first years would be huddled together, excited and scared, ready to be sorted. Hoping to get sorted into a house that would suit them, that would make their family proud. The Welcoming Feast was always great.... But she just, she didn't want to be there just at that moment.
Everything was changing. And Ginny wasn't sure how she was going to cope. But she'd be strong, and do her best. Because... that was important.

One thing was for sure, Harry wasn't the type to let him emotions show, he always took and hid everything, but when he was around Ginny, for some reason, an idiotic grin haunted his face and all worries were gone. Taking her up on her offer, he returned the smile and nodded, "Sure"
Sliding down, he took a seat next to her and looked out at the lake, but soon, he was slowly stealing glances at her, and soon as he felt her eyes turning to him, he immediately looked down with the same stupid smile coming back. At last letting go of his silence, he kept his eyes at the horizon, It really takes your mind off things, doesn't it ?
A moment would be taken to elaborate how beautiful she looked under the moon light, it was something he wasn't going to say, for it might seem very lame of him, but it was enough for him to keep it a secret, though it wasn't really, anyone would and will notice how much she changed since last year. Cheers rose from the castle every now and then, Harry took a look at the lights coming from inside before resting his eyes on Ginny's, why aren't you in there ?
It seemed like a fair question, he had his reasons, very clear ones and it was pretty logical tat he would rather spend time out there than inside, but Ginny on the other didn't have as much things to think about, not that she hadn't been through a lot, she really could rest assured that nothing would happen to her or her family, she hadn't lost anyone. He liked to think that she might felt sorry for Sirius, everyone liked him, he was their mentor, a friend to all and it was unfair that he was taken away, only a few years after Harry met him.
Believe the acts if you don't trust the words, There weren't many people there but at least everyone knew the truth, or at least a bit of it, they knew about malfoy's father, but it was still a disgrace to Sirius' memory that he would still be thought a murderer even after what happened. It didn't really matter to Harry what others thought, they weren't there, now were they ? The only thing that mattered is that his friends knew, Ginny knew and he regretted dragging her into it at such a young age, surely she looks a lot different that she did before, but that doesn't change that she was still younger, and more vulnerable. he didn't wish for anybody to live the life that he, hermione and Ron had to live. Especially not her.

The smile on her face was almost glowing at the inner delight she took at Harry accepting the offer. It wasn't a big deal, not really, if she thought about it. But she wouldn't. She was content to remain delighted. As they sat in silence for a while, Ginny's eyes continued to look out over the lake, but every now and then she couldn't help her eyes darting over to look at Harry. She was almost positive he was looking at her every so often, and again a little bubble of delight grew in her.
She nodded softly, turning to look out over the lake once more, lifting a hand up to brush away a stray strand of hair that had fallen across her eye. "It does... I like to come out here to relax. Specially when it's this quiet."
The soft smile played across her face as she glanced down at the ground, before tilting her head to look over at him as he asked a question. The answer was complicated, yet so very simple and easy at the same time. She wanted time to think of course... but she could think inside, right? "I guess... I guess I wanted away from all of that -" she waved her hand softly towards the Great Hall part of the castle, then continued "- for a little while. It didn't seem right, somehow." Sighing softly, she looked over the lake before looking back at Harry.
Was there any need to ask him the same question. Without think, her hand crept over to take one of his and she said in a quiet but strong voice, "I'm sorry. For everything." And she truly was. Though she didn't understand his pain, and knew that saying sorry wouldn't make it better, she was so very sorry that he had the burden. She held his hand for a second longer, before realising what she was doing and blushing a little (which for her meant bright red cheeks) and letting go. Her arms wrapped around her knees once more and she looked out over the lake.

Yeah....It's amazing out here. There wasn't much better to say, it was probably the only thing that could be said, with all that has been happening, it's not every day you watch people die, you can't go back to just discussing landscapes. It took time to recover.
BUT, it wasn't happening right then, now was it ? It all ended, just for now maybe, but until the next fight he was going to enjoy class, food, friends and Ginny's company. Though they didn't meet much, they were each part of a different group, he spent his time with Ron and Hermione, while she either spent time with her girl friends, or Dean. It didn't feel right to me either, and the problem is, I don't know why...
her voice was so soft when she apologized, it was worm and comforting. Such a simple sentence but still the best consolation he had so far. Thanks hen she touched his hand, he tried his best not to make any reaction, but the touch of her soft skin made his heart beat faster, it was one of the best moments he had in hogwarts, an the year was just getting started ! It wasn't a big deal, but she seemed embarrassed by it and quickly pulled her hand away. He himself moved his hands and slowly leaned down on the ground, looking up at the stars, Umm, Gin ?
He softly called, literally inviting her to join him , but still didn't use any words for it. He was driven by emotions and no matter how wrong his next question might be, he really didn't care, it was eating him alive and quite frankly, Hermione was seeing right through him, and he couldn't keep the secret anymore, he had to let it out, he just didn't know how.

Ginny nodded softly, the strand of hair falling over her eye again but she didn't move it, staring absently ahead. Enjoying the company she was in. Though she considered Harry a great friend, and of course, well more than that in her mind, the time they spent together alone was very rare and few.
She sighed, smiling slightly as watched a light breeze sweep over the lake causing small ripples. She glanced over at Harry, and nodded. "Yeah... I understand that feeling..." She took in a deep breath and moved her eyes from Harry to the castle once more. The feast would have started by now. Her friends would be wondering where she was, and Ron and Hermione would be worried about Harry. Very worried really.
As she watched Harry lean back, she paused then did the same, looking up at the darkening sky. It wasn't fully dark yet, but a couple of scattered groups of stars could be see. The effect was wonderful, and Ginny smiled as looked up. Though things were crazy, and scary, and she had no idea how things would turn out, how the war would paly, lying down outside next to Harry she felt... Safe. And comfortable. And she knew she wouldn't forget it. Was that silly? Or weird? Maybe. But Ginny didn't care. This moment was pretty much perfect.
Tilting her head slightly to face him, she replied, "...Yes, Harry?" As the dark fell more and more heavily and shadows crept up on them, she wondered what she was going to be asked. And more importantly if it would change anything.

Now that she wanted to know what he had in mind, he completely lost track of words, he was no longer able to make enough of them for a sentence. It wasn't the first time he has been through something like that, but it felt different.
He finally decided to keep it in for now, it would only aggravate things, make everyone tense, plus it wouldn't be right, she was dating Dean. At least that's what he heard,You think things will be better this year ? I mean, do you think there will be a war like others say ?
Nobody could tell now, the daily prophet has done nothing but criticize the malfoys and dumbledore , the quibbler warns about war, and the witch weekly believes there will be peace and quiet . But they didn't know voldemort like Harry and the order did. It was quite foggy. Every year Voldemort comes up with a new idea to pass unnoticed and every year it worked ! Except that now, they knew all his plans and he has to come up with something more and more original. But what ?
He flinched as a memory of last year passed across his mind, the way Voldemort was all inside him, the irritating feeling when he made him live all the awful things in his life once more, he even showed him the way his mother died. He glanced over at Ginny, unable to take his eyes off her, and smiled slightly, making a vow deep inside, that he will never let get hurt this time.
We can't do something as stupid as we did last year, we got everyone in danger, and you have been through so much and i'm not going to le that happen again It was a confession he wouldn't normally make, but he felt he could tell her anything, and that she would listen, maybe it wasn't a smart move to admit that, but it was true, he had missed all the teenage life by playing the hero since he was 11. A pride he didn't ask for but a burden he had to carry.

Watching him silently, as she waited for an answer, she took everything she could about him. She had the chance. The darkness and slight moonlight was brilliant and made him stand out. Made her feelings grow - but she wouldn't say that out loud, oh no. And risk being..? No she would keep quiet.
When he didn't answer or say what he was thinking, she felt a touch disappointed that he wasn't going to share. But she understood, deep down, and let him have his secret. Everyone needed that.
But then Harry started to talk again, and Ginny listened, turning her head to look up at the sky again. She took a moment to think of what she thought - what she really thought - about the ever growing threat of war. "I..." She sighed softly, organising her thoughts, trying to make everything clear to herself. "I think in some respects this year could be better... I mean, it's not a secret anymore. Everyone can prepare. But... I, I think there might be a war. I think it's going to be bad."
Thinking about a war was depressing and made her sigh again, but there was no use ignoring it. There was an oncoming storm, and the only way everyone would survive was by preparing and training for it. She caught him looking over at her, and she returned his slight smile.
Ginny turned her head to face him, and fell silent for a while, before replying to his comment. "It was stupid, yes. But we believed it was the right thing to do. And I won't feel guilty about acting on that feeling. But I agree, nothing stupid." She smiled again, touched by his concern, but knew that in reality if a war was coming no one would be safe. She didn't say that though. "You've been through a lot too Harry. And... I won't do anything stupid, or intentionally make you worry. Cross my heart."

It's going to happen, i'm afraid Having a war with Voldemort was a nightmare, he had many death eaters on his side now, thousands of them, a real army, one that Harry, hermione and Ron can't stop this time. Things were getting more and more dangerous, while Dumbledore was getting more and more mysterious.
Come to think about it, people are missing the chance to...live, I mean for all we know, we could die any time Voldemort feels like coming over for a drink. What if we die and we don't achieve our dreams ? What if we die without... He paused stealing a glance at her and slightly smiling, ...having what we wanted ?
I won't do anything stupid, or intentionally make you worry. Cross my heart."
Believe me, i'm going to make you regret those words he had that dumb grin, trademark giggle and idiotic expression on his face and it just wouldn't fade away. He looked back at the castle, with so many lights coming from it, it was hard to believe any magic would keep the muggles from seeing it.
Harry thought about what would be happening inside, and to answer his question, music came from the great hall, Flitwick would be proudly playing the maestro by now. And it all made it so wonderful for him outside, amazing night, great view, slow music and a beautiful girl, it was every guy's heaven ! And Harry liked it but it was painful, painful to know that it's going to end.

Ginny nodded silently. The war would happen, couldn't help that. But they weren't helpless, weren't puppets that Voldemort or anyone else could control. They would do what they could to stand up and fight. No backing down... But the losses they would suffer... The people would go missing, everything like that.
She looked over at Harry, a soft smile playing on her face as she finished. Without having what they wanted? Well, Ginny knew what she wanted, and right at this moment she had it. In a sense. Harry was more than likely oblivious to how she felt, and probably didn't really care to much. But she appreciated the time they were spending together. "That would be awful... If that happened. I suppose I should really make sure I get what I want, that I get my dreams." She smiled warmly at him, then sighed as she looked up at the sky again.
She laughed brightly, "Oh, really? You are? And how might you make me regret them, Mr. Potter?" She ran a hand through her hair, then listened to the falling and rises notes of the choir. It was beautiful, just staying quiet, and peaceful. To her, she couldn't think of somewhere she would rather be.
But she wasn't sure how long it would take before it had to come to an end. Mind you, with Harry perhaps unaware of how she felt, maybe it hadn't even begun?

The way I see it, go for it, whatever it is you want, you have to fight for it, though my dreams seem far from coming true, I still enjoy what I have now, Ron, Hermione, er...you. He looked back at the sky. and started to relax, feeling his heart beat go slower with each second and every breath was taking it's time in, and even more out.
Well, I suppose i'll be doing it in a way, even your famous hex can't save you, Miss Weasley. it was so easy talking to her but so hard telling her how he felt, what if she didn't feel the same ? What if she hated him for it, what if Ron doesn't like it, what if, what if....
he suddenly had this urge to change the subject, So, I heard Dean finally got himself together and asked you out on the train ? He's been talking about doing that since last year, secretly of course, but don't use that to tease him. it was probably, maybe, just maybe, TOTALLY the wrong thing to say, but he wanted them out of the romantic atmosphere and back to a casual conversation. To avoid anything that he might do, she was attracting him in a way right then that she never did before, he felt like if he didn't kiss her tonight, he would never get a better chance to do it. And it was slowly slipping away.
Hey , Ginny ? Would you consider spending Christmas here with me this year ? I know it's still early for it, but, I really can't go back to grimmauld place, because of sirius and all, I can't go to the burrow either and and I don't have anywhere else. I already asked Hermione and She said she'll ask her parents first. I'll write to Mr.Weasley if you want. We can invite Ron as well, if you want. he didn't have anything in mind, he just tried it before and it's better having christmas over at the dursleys rather than alone. Maybe with a little company, that could change.

It was good advice. Fighting for what she wanted now, whilst it was only just outside of her grasp. But that seemed to be the one thing she couldn't find the courage for. Going to the Ministry? Fine. She could do that. Fighting Death Eaters? She's managed. But telling someone how she felt? That was a whole different thing. And to be rejected by Harry would just be too much. And why wouldn't he reject her? In all the years she'd known him she'd been acting embarrassed and young, and Harry had been acting with friendship. But she nodded. "Fighting for what you want would be a good plan. I should... I need to do that." She smiled.
Ginny chuckled brightly once more, then looked mock horrified, "There's something my hexing can't solve? Never!" She chuckled again, shaking her head in amusement, before looking up at the twinkling lights above them.
At the next comment and question by Harry she tensed. Dean... She was kind of hoping that wouldn't come up. What had happened on the train. Well, she'd only agreed to one date with him so far because... Because, well no one else had looked like they were going to ask her out! And to prove that she wasn't always blustering and embarrassing she had to go out and look smart. "I,uh... Dean's.. Dean's a good guy. I like him. But, I don't know how it'll go. What'll happen. I mean I... Never mind." Fighting for what you wanted was so very hard. She needed to find the right words. But they weren't there. And the thought of Dean wanting her? Like really liking her? She groaned softly, and closed her eyes for a moment.
She sighed, and glanced over at him letting go of any thoughts about Dean and smiling at Harry for a while before again turning towards the stars. It was safe to look at them. She could think clearly, and logically, but when she looked at Harry that all fell away, as per usual.
She smiled brightly as he started to talk again. "That would be great. I'd love to of course. I can't think why I wouldn't be allowed." She started to speak softly, her voice fading away, "It'd be fun, and enjoyable, wouldn't it? Something to fight for - having a nice Christmas, and spending it with the people you want to."

Harry nodded, if she only knew, yeah, i need to do that too. That flaming feeling tearing him down piece by piece from the inside, leaving him with nothing but the unbearable pain. How could they be so close and not let her know what he was feeling ? How could he fight the will to just say it ? Or just mess things up with Dean ? No, that would be wrong, very wrong actually, and no matter how much he liked her, it wasn't his choice to make, who she should be or should date, if only Dean did not ask her out on the train, if he could hold it back for a few hours, it would be a different conversation.
Wow....it really changes things, huh ? he added, but soon, he rushed to correct, i don't mind you...But it's just.. i'm sorry, I know it's none of my business, it's just...I had something totally different in mind but, never mind he stopped talking, taking his breath after that senseless and embarrassing speech, I'm sorry..I'm just glad to see that you changed... not that Ron is really excited about it.
Brilliant ! Thanks Ginny, it means a lo.. He stopped talking suddenly, rewinding what she said, "something to fight for...spending it with the people you want to.." Analyzing those slowly, made it clear that something escaped her without her knowing, or her trying to let him know something, wait, so you want to spend christmas with me ? And miss spending it with your family ?
He couldn't make out what she meant, this, this would change a lot of things tonight, and if Hermione was so sure that Ron noticed something different about his best friend, then he would most likely be there on christmas with them.

Ginny wanted to do something, say something that would change things. But it was just... What could she say that would possibly make a difference? That she liked Dean, but he wasn't... He wasn't the one she really wanted to go out with? Well, it was true. But how could someone just come out and say that? And if Harry didn't return her feelings - where would that leave her? She'd feel so guilty, and most likely everything would go wrong for her. She half-wished she hadn't agreed to that date with Dean. But it could be cancelled oh so easily, right?
She sighed quietly. Where was the use in such things when at least to her mind Harry didn't see her as a dating possibility?
"Changes things? I don't know... I'm not sure. I like Dean and he's alright, but I don't -" She fell silent, about to say what was going through her mind. But the same thing was on repeat in her mind - 'He's never seen me as more than a friend, he hasn't. Harry has never seen me as more than a friend' - and so she stopped. "It's none of Ron's business who I go on a date with." She rolled her eyes at the thought of her brother acting over-protective.
She grinned brightly at him, as he thanked her for something she really wanted to do. It was nice to see him happy, even if it was only for a short while. And the fact that she could make him happy? Astounding, and it made her happy too. "Yes. I do." She nodded. She wanted to convey that she really meant it, that it was something she would love to do...
